Smoked Braided White Bread
Equipment
- smoker (I'll be using a pellet Grill for this cook)
Ingredients
- 1 cup water room temperature
- 1 tbsp dry yeast active
- 2 tbsp real maple syrup Feel free to use regular sugar
- 4 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cup bread flour
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Mix the water, maple syrup, and yeast. Whisk well.
- Let rest for about 10 minutes.
- Add the flour, oil, and salt then start to turn the dough by hands in the same bowl. Feel free to use a mixer.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and allow it to rise at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Turn the dough again onto a lightly floured surface or in your mixer. Add more flour if needed, the dough has to be soft and smooth to the touch.
- Cover again with a damp cloth and allow it to rise at room temperature for one hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into three equal pieces.
- Roll each of the three pieces of dough with your hands, making three ropes of about 12-15 inches.
- Line the three strips side-by-side and pinch the top ends together.
- Braid the dough strips together and pinch the bottom ends.
- Cover and let rise in at room temperature for 45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
- In the meantime, preheat the smoker/grill to 350°F.
- Brush your bread with egg yolk and sprinkled with sesame seeds.
- Bake the loaf at 350 F for 30 to 40 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
- Let it cool down and enjoy!
